Nine Year-End Reflection Questions | Vol. 80

“On the days you only have 40%, and you give 40%. You gave 100%.”

– Jim Kwik

Happy New Year! With 2023 officially in the books, it’s time to take a moment and look back. Last December, I shared a version of these reflection questions with the assignment to take a couple of hours to answer them thoughtfully. 2024 is young. This is a great time to reflect, re-focus, and re-center.

I tend to be very future-focused. I spend a lot more time asking, “What’s next?” than “How’d we do?” I find it helpful to flip through my planner and scroll through my photos before beginning the exercise. I’m often surprised by how much my family and my team did that I’d forgotten. Celebrate your wins and learn from your failures. But don’t beat yourself up. The point isn’t to second-guess the past. It’s past. The point is to make your future full of more “I’m glad I dids” than “I wish I hads.”

The last one is a doozy. It’s hard to see who we’re becoming when we’re busy doing the becoming. An agent friend from Portland shared a story of taking her three kids to a cemetery. One asked why some headstones had cars or horses etched in them. She replied that while they were alive, they loved cars or horses.

“Mommy, we’ll have to put a cell phone on your headstone.”

I’ve had these moments with my kids. They are both funny and sobering. If you don’t have kids who will say it like it is, reflection is the key to tracking your journey. And course-correcting as needed.

One question to ponder in your thinking time: What lessons from 2023 can I apply to 2024?
