Top Takeaways from KW Family Reunion 2024
“Hang out with people for whom your dream is just another Tuesday.”
– Codie Sanchez
Our annual convention is always an educational smorgasbord and this year was no exception. Family Reunion 2024 featured a star-studded lineup of speakers, including Tony Robbins, Mel Robbins, Codie Sanchez, Rory Vaden, Dr. Gabrielle Lyon, and Phil M. Jones. We also curated over 200 breakout sessions and panels on every topic imaginable.
This year I taught during all six of the breakout blocks, so our AHA’s will focus on the keynotes and guest speakers. Here are some of the ideas and quotes that stuck with me.
- “You are best positioned to serve the person you once were.” – Rory Vaden
- Rory is The Expert on building a personal brand. This advice lines up with much of what I know about non-fiction books. Many authors’ best works could well have been written for their younger selves. The next step is figuring out exactly what problem you solve.
- “You must do the practical or the practical will become impossible.” – Dr. Gabrielle Lyon
- If you don’t do the basics, even the basics may become too difficult to attempt. You set your ceiling of achievement every day by deciding what you can and can’t do, and what you will and won’t do. It’s all about knowing that you can, and then following through with action.
- “Tools limit mistakes.” – Codie Sanchez
- Between her keynote and her live interview for The ONE Thing Podcast, Codie repeated this phrase five times. Investing requires guts and precision. Don’t wing it.
- Codie also shared these gems:
- The Lindy Effect — The longer a business has been around, the longer it is likely to stay in business. That’s a big part of her “buy boring businesses” thesis. She’s not looking for the hot new thing. She searches for businesses that last. It reminded me of a famous Warren Buffett quote: “Do you know what the best-selling candy bar in the world was in 1962? Snickers. Do you know what the best-selling candy bar in the world is today? Snickers.”
- “Sixty percent of all business acquisitions are on seller financing.” You don’t need gobs of money to acquire business. You need to master terms.
- “If you aren’t convinced, you can’t convince.” – Phil M. Jones
- Stop selling things you don’t believe in. Period.
- Tony Robbins lived up to the hype in his nearly three-hour keynote.
- “Life doesn’t happen to you, it happens for you.”
- “There are three decisions you make (both consciously and unconsciously): 1. What are you going to focus on? Focus equals feeling. If you change your focus, your feelings will change. 2. What does something mean? Whatever meaning you come up with will instantly change your feelings and, then, your actions as a result. 3. What action are you going to take?”
- “Your worst day can become your best day if you use it.”
- “Biography is not destiny. Decision is destiny.”
- Mel Robbins has mastered the art of getting people unstuck. The genius lies in the simplicity of her message and approach.
- “You are thinking too much and it’s holding you back. It’s simple, not easy. We aren’t wired to change….It’s you against you.”
- “Instead of, ‘Maybe next year…,’ say, ‘This is the year that I______.’”
- “Your goals don’t happen by chance, they happen by choice. The only thing standing between you and your goals is your willingness to act.”
- “5-4-3-2-1 Go!”
- “You’re in winter and you’re going to stay in it for a while. The market isn’t going to give you anything. If you can hold your ground during tough times, you are set up for the next five to ten years.” – Gary Keller
- Gary being Gary, he doesn’t always tell us what we want to hear. He tells us what we need to hear. If you’re playing the long game, this is great news.
- “You’re going to have to contact people. Make peace with it. Most agents try to figure out how to make money without contacting people. Nope. It’s a contact sport.” – Gary Keller
- Yep. As always, we exhort you to do your outreach in a TCPA-compliant way!
One question to ponder in your thinking time: What ONE thing will I implement from Family Reunion this week?
