It’s Not Too Late | Vol. 59

It’s Not Too Late | Vol. 59 “You can’t go back and make a new start, but you can start right now and make a brand new ending.” – James R. Sherman Visiting Haleakalā Crater on Maui feels otherworldly. The volcano stretches just 10,000 feet above the Pacific. But that belies the fact that it …

Sales and the Gift of Gab | Vol. 58

Gary, Jason, and I had our pre-interview chat with Phil M. Jones this week. Jones is the bestselling author of Exactly What to Say and will be delivering a keynote at Mega Agent Camp later this month. If you’re coming, you’re in for a treat. Our conversation got me musing about how achieving sales success and initiating sales conversations go hand-in-hand.

Self-Sabotage and the Spotlight Effect | Vol. 57

Wilt Chamberlain was one of the all-time greatest NBA players of all time. He holds many all-time records, including the most points per game in a season (50.3), most points scored in a game (100), and most free throws made in a game (28). All three records were set in 1962 and two on the same evening. In his legendary March 2, 1962 game Chamberlain scored 100 points, including 28 of 32 free throws. Here's the thing: he was a horrible free-throw shooter, making just 51% of his shots throughout his career.

The 1:60 Rule – RESET to Hit Your Goals | Vol. 55

The 1:60 Rule is a navigation shortcut from the aviation world. Simply put, if a plane’s heading is off by 1 degree, after 60 nautical miles (nm) the aircraft will be a mile off-course. Not a big deal if you’re cruising above the great plains. But, that difference can be life or death if you’re threading the Andes mountains en route to Santiago. (Yes, I just watched the trailer to Alive.)

Filter Out the Noise | Vol. 54 “In rowing as in life, there are competitors and there are racers. The competitor works hard and rows to his limit. The racer does not think of limits, only the race.” – Jim Dietz Olympic rowing is Great Britain’s most successful event. From 1900, when the sport debuted, …

Intentions Before Distractions – The Most Impactful Habit You Can Build | Vol. 53

Houston, we have a problem. A 2013 study from IDC Research shows that 80% of smartphone users get on their phones within 15 minutes of waking up. A 2023 survey by Reviews.org updated that statistic to 89% checking their phones within 10 minutes of waking. Most of these people go straight to their inbox or social media once they’ve rubbed the sleep out of their eyes. Why are so many launching their days with “rise and scroll” instead of “rise and shine”? Almost 57% reported that they are addicted to their phones.

The Hard Thing About Hard Conversations | Vol. 52

This past weekend, I got to know the red harvester ant on personal terms. While cutting mesquite on my property, a few harvester ants fell down my shirt. I could feel one on my neck and one marching down my chest. I swatted the one on my neck. But before I could get the other one, she stung me just above my belly button.

Let’s Talk About MUSTerbation | Vol. 51

Dr. Albert Ellis was a pioneer of cognitive behavioral therapy. He’s been ranked alongside Carl Rogers and Sigmund Freud as one of the most influential psychotherapists in history. You’ve probably never heard of him. After this, hopefully, you’ll never forget him.
